You silly ducker. Those KS flatland deer get big, if you let them grow. Image Image

LA- I don't even know if he'll get it scored. Gross will be way up there, upper 170's at least, but the net will be a let down, mid 160's or so.

Jud and his crew made me a believer in still hunting during gun season. Those fuggers can't sit still for a minute, hardly ever scout, don't give a chit about scent, they just get in there amoungst 'em, and shoot the chit out of big deer.
Image Image When you're shooting them at 185 yards does scent really pay that big of a part? That's pretty much typical for north Mo-mo hunting. Get some dudes along a field and get some other dudes moving the deer and take shoots from 100-300 + yards.

The deer drives actually are more short range, 100yds being a long shot, drivers typically get shots 30-60yds at moving deer. The one I shot was not durring a drive, just major wind, him and the doe colapsed at the shot. I sight in for 200yds, and would shoot to over 300yds with a rest, so I had the situation under control.

dave - never meant to imply you didn't have the situation under control. But I used to hunt up around Memphis and 150-200 yards is about an average shot for north missouri. They got big deer up there for sure, but that kind of hunting isn't really my cup of tea.

After what the deer put me through durring bow season, I don't mind taking the easy way for gun season. Image

I agree, Rafe. To hunt for meat, it does not take very many outdoor outings to realize our primative ancestors had a genuine reason for leaving the women and children at the cave.

I'm gonna start carrying a sledge hammer with me when I track my deer so that I can give them some character once I find them. Oh, and take out my frustration on them a bit as well.

LA saw deer. If she would have had a more patient guide, she would have had her choice between a doe and an 8pt sammich. I rushed my plans of trying to get he into some deer on Sunday, and screwed up the whole deal for her. But, did she see deer.
