I saw one guy who had placed the transportation tag on the deer's rear leg, called into the tele-check system, wrote down the 8 digit number they provided, BUT then didn't attach the remaining portion of the tag to the deer like it says. He got a $159 ticket.

from MDC FY05 annual report:
Conservation agents contacted 199,810 hunters and anglers in FY05. During theses contacts, agents noted 24,552 violations, issued 4,151 written warnings and made 7,126 arrests with a 93% conviction rate.
That?s what about 3 ? 4 % of the people they ?contact? that get busted.

Oh, Did you know that agents can check time of tag purchase against check in time ???

Fish - If I remember right, some folks found out about that last year.....THE HARD WAY!! Didn't one dude actually buy his tag AFTER legal hunting time and then turn around and telecheck a deer on it a little later that evening?![]()
How'd that sig line used to go....stupidity should hurt!!!![]()
Don't know exactly what the window is from time of purchase to check in time is before it is flagged tho

I'm glad the MDC is using their extra time wisely. I'm tired of poachers, and "hunters" who don't follow the laws.
